Desperate for an answer

Devotional:

What is it about a difficult situation that causes us to scramble? Not only are our thoughts scrambled, but also the discernment of our situations too. Instead of facing the situation with a level mind, many of us begin to make erratic decisions. Decisions that may bring present satisfaction, but ultimately have long-lasting detrimental effects.

The truth is, we desire to be comfortable. When faced with discomfort, the normal human reaction is to shift into a posture that relieves the tension. However, it is through embracing the discomfort where we grow the most. If you give into your flesh and are hasty with your decisions, you may very well fall into the deceptive trap of the enemy. Remember, it is our desperation that leads to deception.

In a moment where you need an immediate answer from God, the best thing you can do, is "be still." Allow your soul to come at rest with God, and understand that He is leading you. Understand that His Word is a lamp to your path, and that though the world is rushing you, there's no need for you to. And when the powerful wind, earthquake and fire passes, you will hear the still small voice of the Lord, directing you gently onto the right path.

Scripture(s) Meditation:

"Desire without knowledge is not good— how much more will hasty feet miss the way!"

Proverbs 19:2 NIV

"The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of theLord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”"

1 Kings 19:11-13 NIV

"It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord"

Lamentations 3:26 NIV

Reflection Question(s): We invite you to discuss below.

What situation are you in currently that requires an immediate answer? What is keeping you from stilling your soul before the Lord? What do you gain by sitting still before Him?
